Previously in James Bond: Kill Chain #1: When a counterespionage operation in Rotterdam goes catastrophically wrong, James Bond finds himself in the crosshairs of a plot to smash NATO. Someone is assassinating allied agents, and 007 is the next target in the kill chain. Having kept the peace for decades, the old alliance is collapsing, pitting MI6 against its former ally – the CIA!

The Artwork of James Bond: Kill Chain #2 by Luca Casalanguida was awesome. Nice panel layout and placement with well drawn and consistent characters. The action scenes were friggin awesome!! Way better than they do it in the films! I was particularly impressed with Casalanguida’s inking skills. They were bold and chiseled but, not too much, just enough. It gave in a hard but still human feel. The color choices of Chris Blythe were perfect. They matched very well with the artwork and the feel of the story. Nice tones and great use of color variation to show light angles. Simon Bowland’s letters were also done well. They were a well chosen size and font type that was easy to read and not distracting at all. Bowland leads us across the panels with an expert hand.

The writing of James Bond: Kill Chain #2 by Any Diggle was top notch stuff. It had me tearing through this book like a crack head who thought there would be a rock at the end. I couldn’t put it down. Perfect paced and a great flow seamlessly lead you from panel to panel, and from page to page. The book is full of great dialogue. Not only is the dialogue entertaining and informative (and of course cool as ice), but at times it’s even funny – which I think is essential to good James Bond. There are several one liners and exchanges that literally made me laugh out loud. This is a fantastic story and it is owed to the man, Any Diggle!

The story opens up with Bond getting questioned and even accused for the things that transpired in the first issue – namely, the death of an assassin. James Bond seems to be being framed for a murder he did not commit. To make things worse there are several other countries involved in this mess now – namely the US. But, this is 007 we’re talking about and that is just the tip of the iceberg trying to sink his ship. Military issue weapons being handed out to extremists, white supremacist skinheads and the obligatory hot but deadly woman!

Dynamite Entertainment has been. well, beyond impressing me with their various James Bond stories. I mean, flat out amazing stuff. I am not kidding when I say that I would look forward to Dynamite’s next Bond issue more than if a new movie was coming out. The first story I read was Vargr – a fantastic story BTW. Every title I’ve read since then has been better than the last. Dynamite is really taking off like a rocket on this one. I will be considering Dynamite’s James Bond when award nominations come around again.
