The cover artwork of Trinity of Sin: The Phantom Stranger vol. 1: A Stranger Among Us by the legendary Ethan Van Sciver (Green Lantern) was perfect and well drawn as always. The interior art by Brent Anderson has a early pulp/golden age look and feel to it. From the facial expressions to the use of many thin and thick lines to shade rather than a solid shade, it is a fun retro look and it is done well.

The story of Trinity of Sin: The Phantom Stranger vol. 1: A Stranger Among Us by Dan Didio (co-publisher at DC Comics) is amazing. The Phantom Stranger was instantly relatable and welcoming. Dan Didio’s style is enthralling. I couldn’t put it down. I read all six issues in a row. I love the narrative and inner thoughts of the Phantom Stranger and the dialog between him and the Presence. I also loved how Didio imagined, how he envisioned the Presence. It’s perfect. I wouldn’t have thought it before I read this, but it is perfect.

There have been many betrayers throughout time. But who is the worst? According to the Council of Wizards, it was the man who betrayed the Lamb of God, Judas Iscariot. For the crime of the ultimate betrayal the Phantom Stranger must wander the world, forced to betray over and over at the behest of the Presence, for the greater good. To this end he was given great powers and immortality so that he might do the work required to make penance. But this life is lonely and heartbreaking. What will the Phantom Stranger do to ease this suffering? What would you be willing to do?
